When the extreme wide tires were first introduced, everyone had a problem. How can one fit a 250, 280, or 300 tire in a stock softail frame? SIMPLE!, thats where Zodiac and Kustom Kolors comes in! Zodiac's Ton Pells designed a complete extra wide swingarm kit that includes a "no jig needed" frame widening kitas well as the primary offset kit that allowsthe use of up to 300mm tires in stock and most aftermarket frames. And Kustom Kolors Ink is selling these kits!
The Frame widening is done with a 15mm(0.590) thick replacement offset banana shaped frame side plate. the banana shaped side plate is to be welded in place using the origianl banana plate as a jig. The engine/tranny of the Evolution models in the frame has a 1/4" difference compared to the twin cam models. Therefore, the offset in the frame plate, in combination with the 45mm (1.772") primary offset kits provides enough room for up to 250 series tire in the EVO softail frames, and 280 series tire in the Twin cam frames. If the offset plate is used in conjunction with the 55mm primary offset, the kit provides enough room for Avon's extreme wide 300 series tires in the Twin cam frame, or a 280 series Metzler tire in the EVO frame.
NOTE~The EVO models will accept the 300 series tire if the wheel is slightly offset to the right side.
The complete kit conatains the Swingarm, offset banana frame side plate, and a complete primary offset kit which includes the primary spacer ring with support bearing, crankshaft extention, extension nut, primary gasket kit, extended main shaft, extended main drive gear, offset front pulley, extended starter motor coupler with extnede bolt and all extended priamry bolts with locking plates. The OEM brake caliper can be re-used, and the tabs for the belt guard are welded in place. The Kits for the EVO models must be used with the Twin Cam type 1-1/8" wide, 135 tooth final belt,and a 70 tooth 1-1/8" wide pulley. When installing this kit in a 1991 thru 1993 model, a late style countershaft 5th gear must be ordered seperatly.
NOTE~ We strongly recommend a craftsman or certified welder does the welding of the side plates.
